This project starts with an initial study of one morphological design-research topic, to investigate and research the topic in detail.

The studio is coordinated to firstly analyze the geometry, structure and systematics of growth, then produce a morphology of adapted systems on a fabrication scale and finally investigate the application of the research onto a larger scale.

The pattern is about viscous maculae-realease. It's a pattern about movement. To understand this topic, we made lots of experiments, to see how different viscous liquid interact with each other, and simulate the formation of the pattern. We discovered that how seaweed behaves within the ecosystem has similar release pattern.

When we poured water into vase, the seaweeds spread and float in water with buoyancy of water which is similar like moculea-release.

Seaweed Structure Analysis

Basic on the structural analysis, we found that the seaweed has two characters: rigidity and floatability, while still connect as one system. One structural element that makes the seaweed float is the "float" which is filled with air. The float is the intersection of the main structure and the blades, which provides buoyancy to let the blades goes up.

With water currents, blades would perform flat or corrugated, which make the seaweeds form different forms.
